A Healing Story

During the time I was sick and receiving chemotherapy, before learning about Mary Magdalene, before becoming full time artist, I met a woman in my mind every night. I don’t know where she came from, probably from all the SageWoman magazines, magical realism, poetry, and fantasy literature I had read throughout my life until then.

She was made of nature, and she was old but ageless. She held my hands and transfused me with a healing green substance, coming from her through me. We sat on a large rock as I received her nightly treatment.

After each healing she would take me to a small stone structure, like a tiny castle or short tower, that inside contained natural looking gardens, springs and fountains at different levels. There I would bathe in the pure water, enclosed and protected from the outside world as the woman closed the door and guarded it from the outside. After a while, she would come back to get me, and let me return to my night sleep.

I think this is why I connect with the image of Mary Magdalene in a cave. I imagine her like the woman in my healing dreams. I imagine her becoming the Earth, deeply entwined with nature, her dress made of leaves and roots, her hair entangled in curls of mud. Her skin like the earth, deep grooves holding within their folds the stories gathered throughout a long life.

A few years later, I was exploring a mental technique from a book, and in this meditation where I was supposed to go where my mind took me, I met the woman again. She showed me images that healed the parts of me that chemotherapy could not. By then, Mary Magdalene had come into my life, and I chose to follow the path she was showing me. In my mind they are one, the nature woman and Mary Magdalene.

During the most difficult moments in life, we can go into our deepest selves and ask for help. We may then receive the healing that our being needs.

We can also reach for wellness within wellness and go inside to promote homeostasis and inner peace. All it takes is to make the time, close our eyes, let our body relax and our mind go. Then our being can step into that strange world of creation, and find the images that will guide our soul where it longs to go.
