Mary Magdalene’s Lessons: Devotion

Devotion, a drawing in progress by Tanya Torres
Devotion, a drawing of Mary Magdalene, still in progress.

Mary Magdalene was devoted to Jesus Christ. And he was devoted to her, and all human beings. Mary Magdalene’s essence transformed through giving and receiving devotion.

Devotion is the constant and total dedication to something or someone. Devotion moves a person to loyalty, love or care for someone or something. Devotion goes beyond discilpline because it goes beyond the self.

Devotion is usually interpreted as a religious or spiritual practice. But it doesn’t have to be. Spirituality can take many forms, and devotion can expand in meaning and practice to embrace actions that promote wellbeing and growth with dedication and constancy.

Devotion is a form of selfless love. The love that transforms the self into the other, without losing one’s unique essence.
