Just Lines

Mary Magdalene drawing by Tanya Torres
A Mary Magdalene made of just lines.

The best thing about a line drawing is that it takes just a short time to complete, but the process brings with it all the good of creating a work of art. It is a short practice that can offer a moment of peace, quiet, enjoyment and full engagement.

Sometimes a drawing is not very good or satisfying, but you can choose to continue working on it, and often, it transforms into something beautiful. When this happens, it’s empowering. It helps us realize that beauty and what seems like perfection come from discipline and practice.

It’s also acceptance. If a line is not quite right, we can always erase it and do it over. Or accept it as it is, and keep it as a record of our growth.

Even though I didn’t think I had a drawing in me tonight, I kept going. And erasing, and drawing again. It’s not perfect. I accept it and enjoy it. It’s a step in the journey, a little prayer in the Universe.
