Practicing Perfect Days

Today I had to do some work from my day job, but later I spent several hours working on the small painting I started this week. To keep my commitment to draw every day, I transferred a drawing to a canvas and outlined it in pencil. I wasn’t able to go beyond that because I ran out of energy for the day, but the most important about the days this week is that I have practiced how to live my ideal life every day.

I have this idea that if I live ideal days as often as possible, doing all the things I want to do and grow, one day I will just keep going. Like learning how to ride a bike, or learning anything else. I’m re-teaching myself the format of my ideal day.

It is really beautiful to realize in the middle of the day or before going to sleep that your heart is full of gratitude without having to concentrate or “fake it till you make it.” Even though we can create feelings inside of us when we need to, it’s just amazing when the feelings surprise you and you realize that you are feeling exactly how you would like to feel every day.

Now I’m feeling that kind of tired that just means it was a good day and I did my job.

I am looking forward to many future days like I have lived this week.

Drawing on canvas. I transferred the drawing to an 18” x 24” canvas. It’s ready to paint.

Painting of Mary Magdalene in progress. I added the second layer today, with some touches in gold color. It’s hard to photograph the wet painting because the oil reflects the light too much.

Your work is so special. Truly you've created your own path. It makes me think of the Julia de Burgos poem: Yo misma fui mi ruta (I was my own path)
