The Process of Self-Transformation
I’ve been working today on my next book, which is going to have a small amount of text and a large amount of pictures. There are many coloring images, so I decided to combine today’s drawing with creating another image for the book. All the coloring images are of Mary Magdalene so far. The process for creating the coloring images is: create an initial drawing and trace it in Illustrator.
In this drawing, the butterflies form a halo, a natural halo of creatures that are attracted by the loving energy of the Magdalene, just an our souls seek her for guidance and inspiration.
Butterflies are symbols of rebirth, and they are beautiful, so I always paint them as attributes of Mary Magdalene. I often depict her with attributes such as bees, a dove, fire, flowers, leaves, the traditional alabaster jar, and the Sacred Heart.
The exercise of drawing Mary Magdalene every day has been a source of energy and inspiration for my days ever since I started the first day of the year. I look forward to it during the day, and having the commitment to do it makes me move and get to work even when I feel extremely tired and with almost no energy. Once I sit down to draw, I recover most times.
This process has led me to today, when I finished work at the usual time, traveled and ate at the usual time, but made the transition to my studio much earlier and with energy almost intact.
The process of drawing and writing each day is helping me return in a subtle way to my art discipline. After so many years, I need to be patient. But I’m relieved and happy that I’m finding the way back. By dedicating time and practice each day, I believe I can return to where I left off.
I believe that these prayers in action are paving the way for my self-transformation.
